Benthota is the middle point between the Western and Southern provinces of Sri Lanka, and serves as a hub of activity. Famous for water sports out in the ocean, Benthota is also home to some of the best beaches in the island. Coral-rich dive sites are dotted along the coast, while the lagoon also provides for inland boat tours that capture the best of both worlds. On the Bentota River, the centuries-old Galapota Temple has a large Buddha statue that are among the must-see sites. This tour also gives passengers the opportunity to travel through both salt and fresh waters. Boats have been known to catch a glimpse of fresh water crocodiles and water snakes inland, while occasional sightings of Sperm Whales out in the ocean have also been recorded.
