A freshwater lake that sits on the border of the Colombo and Kalutara districts, the Bolgoda Lake has long been a unique tourist attraction in Sri Lanka’s Western province. The lake is popular for water sports, and one will surely encounter jet skis and other vessels that provide travellers with the thrill of the waters. Dotted along the banks of the lake are many resorts and holiday homes that are popular with both local and international visitors. As one of the biggest sources of fresh water within the district, the lake also plays a pivotal role in conservation efforts of wetlands. Although threatened by extensive fresh water fishing, prawn farming and disposing of waste, a special conservation programme is underway to preserve the lake.
This is the only tour of its kind in Sri Lanka that not only allows you to witness the wonders of the Bolgoda waters, but also includes a complete overnight stay that allows you to discover many other treasures in the area. Starting off at the Port City, Colombo the boat then takes you to the entrance of Lake Bolgoda. After a quick stop for lunch and cold ones, the ride then proceeds to the North-side of the Bolgoda Lake, and a stay over at the Lake Bolgoda Resort. Day two of the tour finds you on the waters where the lake meets the ocean. A quick sail to Benthota, and a tour of Lighthouse Island ends the day with a check-in at the famed Club Benthota for two more nights. On the third day you will tour the famous Bawa Gardens, the ancestral home of Sri Lanka’s prolific architect Geoffrey Bawa before hitting the waters for jet skiing and other water sports.
